Summary:	This paper presents a study concerning the current implementation of 802.11 wireless local area networks in Romania and their security. The data that was gathered throughout the year 2012 presents the structure of the wireless networks in rural areas compared to urban areas, identifies potential security problems and situates the Romanian national development in the global context. This paper is part of a study concerning the security of computer networks related to the new threats to this segment of mobile networking.
