Description
Summary:The development of optical communication makes service providers with fast data transmission and larger capacities, one of which is fiber optic. WDM long-distance network with multiplexing technology has the advantage of transmitting a lot of data into one fiber cable. The performance of WDM long-distance transmission media requires appropriate cables so that the data received is of good quality. In fiber transmission media, there are two types of cables SMF and DCF. In addition, to see the performance of each cable, this research compared the application of two types of cables with coherent and incoherent optical detectors with variations in laser transmit power from 0 to -10dBm with an adjusted transmission distance. The system design uses non-return-to-zero modulation techniques (NRZ) and Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) on the transmitter side. This research gave results on WDM-PON with the addition of a cable DCF of 7.07 * 10 −5 and on WDM-PON with only the use of SMF cables had a result of 6.14 * 10 −5 . It shows results that are not much different but in its application the use of DCF cables has the advantage of adding a length of 35km. Whereas the coherent WDM-PON showed the DCF cable made the system better seen performance tests resulting in 2.79 * 10 −5 and close to 10 −5 compared to just using an SMF cable without the addition of DCF which results in 1.39*10 −5 or close to 10 −4 . the best application for a coherent system is to use an additional DCF cable.
