Description
Summary:The optimal sizing of grid-tied Microgrids (MG) is conducted with regard to numerous considerations. The economic consideration for instance is subject to the microgrid's configu-ration and its contractual interactions with the utility grid. This paper presents a novel Nonlinear Problem (NLP) formulation of a grid tied MG's optimal sizing problem. Moreover, an analysis is performed to understand how the optimal penetration rate, optimal capacities of components, and Net Present Cost (NPC) of the project are affected by factors like the microgrid's capital and operating expenses (capex and opex), Hosting Capacity (HC), and the price at which excess energy is sold back to the grid. Additionally, the article explores the influence of regulations promoting renewable energy on the optimal economic sizing of grid - tied microgrids.
