Description
Summary:All recent wireless technologies innovations are intended to operate in a wide band configuration. The prominent choice of antenna is microstrip patch antenna due to its inherent advantages. The rudimentary drawback in patch antenna is the low gain characteristics. This paper investigates the gain improvement in a conventional circular patch antenna deployed with a rectangular Split-ring Resonators (SRR) layer. The substrate of the radiating structure operating at 2.5 GHz is FR4. The design and simulation of the proposed structure is implemented in Ansys High frequency structure simulator (HFSS). A comparative analysis of the radiation characteristics such as gain, bandwidth percentage and return loss without SRR and with 2x2 and 4 x 4 SRR array is carried out. The simulation results indicate a bandwidth 70 MHz and maximum gain of 4.59 dB. SRR array enhanced the gain by 59% and the bandwidth by 40 %. The SRR loaded structure can be incorporated to improvise the performance metrics of antenna designed for wireless applications for WLAN.
