Description
Summary:ISP needs a CPE device to give internet connection for customers. The CPE device is operated 24 hours, 24 hours operation of CPE may decrease the lifetime of the device, and increase the cost of electricity from CPE operation. The wireless router has a DHCP server for all connected devices in the network. By using a wireless router with a USB port, OpenWrt firmware, and Arduino Uno microcontroller can make a prototype that able to control the power of CPE based on the number of lines in DHCP lease. Using OpenWrt firmware make able to develop the list of DHCP leases on the DHCP server used as source information to control the power of CPE. If the list of DHCP leases is empty, this indicates there are no connected devices so CPE will be turned off. But if the list of DHCP leases is not empty, this indicates there are connected devices so CPE win be turned on. The result of the test is the prototype working properly, if there are no connected devices in the network, the CPE is turned off. But if there are connected devices in the network, the CPE is turned on. From the result of the test, the prototype is best designed to increase the lifetime of CPE and decrease the cost of electricity from 24 hours operation of CPE, so the CPE is only used if an internet connection is needed.
