Description
Summary:An analysis examines the Nicaraguan political economy. The analysis adopts a traditional approach by first examining the basic economic structure and then seeking an explanation of these observations through an understanding of the political and historical setting. A set of straightforward measures is applied to the board productive structure of the Nicaraguan economy over a long period of time in order to gauge the changes that occurred during 3 decades of agro-export expansion, 10 years of contraction, and the present period of international reconciliation, regional reintegration, and recovery. The analysis concludes by contrasting Nicaragua's structural development to that of other nations of comparable income level during the same time periods.
