Summary: | The paper focuses on current developments in the history of economic thought in Eastern Europe. In contrast to the conventional interpretation positing a neoliberal breakthrough in postcommunist economics, the author emphasizes the old-new interventionist (constructivist) elements of Eastern European economic thinking. In the first part of the paper, he draws parallels between the scholarly and sociological positions of the former reformers and the present "transformers". In the second part, he provides samples of the transformers' arguments for the "engineering" of the transformation processes by the new governments. |
