Description
Summary:The oxidation of C 60 and C 70 with molecular oxygen was studied by X-ray absorption spectroscopy, photoelectron spectroscopy, and diffuse reflectance infrared spectroscopy. Thermally-induced reaction of oxygen with the fullerenes started at 370 K. At a temperature of 470 K cage opening of the fullerene framework was observed. Oxygen treatment at 570 K led to complete degradation of the molecules in the surface region.
