Llengua i immigració a l'estat autonòmic i a Catalunya: una aproximació jurídica

From a legal perspective, the article analyses the relation between immigrationlanguage, particularly in terms of the actions of the public authoritiesaddressed to promote and ensure the knowledge of the host society languageby immigrants and those who choose to take the nationality. To contextualisethe subject under analysis, the approach to political philosophy will beexamined first of all under the EU framework in relation to linguistic andmigration topics and the current trends in western countries. Secondly, theevolution of the state system on nationality and emigration in terms of linguisticswill be analysed, which has led to the languages to be progressivelyincorporated as basic elements of social integration, as well as the issues thatare still outstanding in this field. Finally, the linguistics policy used by theGeneralitat Government of Catalonia in relation to immigration will be studied,paying special attention to the new Law 10/2010, of 7 May, on the receptionof immigrants and returnees to Catalonia, the first of its type in ourenvironment, which develops the role of languages as an integration elementfor immigrants.
