Summary: | A 54-year-old male patient, presented a verrucous and vegetative surface lesion, erythroleukoplastic, in marginal gum region extending from the 13-tooth region to the 17 tooth, irregular contour, approximately 4 cm, and asymptomatic. The patient denied a habit of smoking and alcoholism or any other type of harmful habit. Incisional biopsy was done and the material forwarded for analysis. Histopathological examination revealed island of neoplastic cells, arranged in blocks. Cells showed hexagonal morphology and eosinophilic cytoplasm in the superficial portion of the tumor and in the deeper portion shows cells with intermediate appearance, clear, and/or squamous. Atypical mitosis figures and presence of moderate inflammatory infiltrate were visualized in connective tissue stroma. The diagnosis was adenosquamous carcinoma. The patient was referred to the oncology service of the Hospital de Câncer de Pernambuco (HCP), and died 90 days after treatment initiation. |
