Summary: | A 14-year-old male patient reported a progressive increase in volume in the mental region that had appeared 4 years ago. The patient's medical history was irrelevant. Extraoral examination showed a nodular lesion, soft to the touch, mobile, painless, and with a color similar to the skin. Fine needle aspiration cytology was not effective for collection of material. Incisional biopsy was performed, and histologic sections stained in hematoxylin and eosin revealed intertwined bundles of spindle cells with a wavy nucleus associated with collagen bundles and numerous mast cells, proving the diagnosis of plexiform neurofibroma. The patient was referred to a referral service for the diagnosis and treatment of genetic diseases for evaluation regarding the association of this case with type 1 neurofibromatosis. |
