Description
Summary:Paracoccidioidomycosis (PCM) is a systemic fungal granulomatous disease that affects predominantly the lungs and the mucous membrane of the upper aerodigestive tract. In the current report, we described a series of 4 cases of PCM with oral involvement without pulmonary manifestations. All cases affected males with mean age at diagnosis of 51.5 years old. Intraoral examination revealed granulomatous ulcerative lesions predominantly in gingival (3 cases) and labial (2 cases) mucosa. All patients underwent incisional biopsy. Histopathological examination associated with culture (negative for BAAR and Ziehl-Neelsen and positive for Groccot’s special staining) confirmed the diagnosis of paracoccidioidomycosis. Chest XR showed no pulmonary lesions. Treatment (Itraconazole, dose 100-200 mg, for at least 6 months) resulted in remission of the lesions.
