Description
Summary:We report a rare case of oral focal mucinosis (OFM). A female patient, 77 years old, exhibited an exophytic and asymptomatic lesion in maxillary gingival region of normochromic coloration. The diagnostic hypothesis was fibroma. The excisional biopsy was performed, which on histopathological examination revealed focal myxomatous areas, containing ovoid and fusiform fibroblasts. Alcian Blue staining revealed material compatible with hyaluronic acid. The histopathological diagnosis of OFM was established. The patient did not show signs of recurrence. Although OFM is rare, it should be considered in the differential diagnosis of lesions located in the gingival region.
