Summary:A novel method for precision position control of ball screw actuator system with dual positioning range (coarse and fine) is presented in this paper. The automatic positioning of the system is achieved using programmable logic controller. The static and dynamic frictions of the actuator system are identified with Tustin and LuGre friction models. The positioning of developed actuator stage is achieved with micrometer accuracy with single ball screw actuator, where a special gearing mechanism is used to reduce the speed of the servo motor. Better positioning is achieved with friction compensation.
