Summary:Objectives : to assess the pregnant women knowledge toward prevention of urinary tract infection, and find out the relationship between pregnant women knowledge toward prevention UTI and some socio-demographic characteristics. methodology : a descriptive study was conducted from 1st of November 2013 and up to the 19th of August 2014 in five typical primary health care centers at Kirkuk City. a non-probability (convenient sample) was used to select the sample of 180 pregnant women aged (15-44) years. a constructed questionnaire format was constructed and comprised (9 items) to assess pregnant woman's knowledge toward prevention of urinary tract infection. descriptive statistical (Frequency & percentage) and inferential statistics )ANOVA) were used to analyze the data by using SPSS (version 17). results : the results of the study revealed that the majority of the study sample within age groups (20-24) and (25-29) years respectively, was primary school graduated, housewife, and living in urban area, and insufficient in socioeconomic status. conclusion : the most of pregnant women had adequate knowledge in the most items toward prevention of UTI. in addition, there is a significant difference between the women knowledge toward prevention of UTI and their level of education and occupation. recommendations : implementing an instructional program to raise the knowledge of pregnant women on the causes, symptoms, prevention, and treatments of UTIs as well as distributing scientific journals, booklets, and brochures on the subject.
