Summary: | The slide rule is a very satisfactory instrument for rapid division that can be satisfied by quotients having three digit accuracy. However, there are places where six or more digit accuracy is desired. It was pointed out in a recent article in The Mathematics Teacher* that the slide rule may be used to secure five, six, eight or, more digit answers to square root problems. In a somewhat similar way the slide rule may be used to secure quotients having six or more digit accuracy. |
