Highlights • The olfacto-retinal pathway was traced in Austrolebias charrua fish. • Three different tracers were employed in vivo and in vitro into the eye of fish. • Labeled neurons were found in three regions as part of the terminal Nerve. • Two labeled nuclei were found in the diencephalon probably interrelated.
