Highlights • EE improved the performance in young and aged rats. • The effect of EE on the distance travelled depending on the age of the animals. • EE had a different impact on the COx activity depending on the age. • PCA is a suitable statistical analysis to understand brain functional organization. • The effect of EE was specific for the acquisition to the spatial task.
