Description
Summary:A Comparison of 2 Thrombus Aspiration Devices With Histopathological Analysis of Retrieved Material in Patients Presenting With ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction Pieter J. Vlaar, Tone Svilaas, Mathijs Vogelzang, Gilles F. Diercks, Bart J. de Smet, Ad F. van den Heuvel, Rutger L. Anthonio, Gillian A. Jessurun, Esjong Tan, Albert J. Suurmeijer, Felix Zijlstra To compare the efficacy of 2 thrombus aspiration catheters in the treatment of ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction, we performed a prospective cohort study of 80 patients treated with the Diver (Invatec, Roncadelle, Italy) catheter. Histological, angiographic, and clinical outcomes were compared with a matched population of the TAPAS (Thrombus Aspiration during Percutaneous coronary intervention in Acute myocardial infarction Study), in which patients were treated with the Export (Medtronic, Minneapolis, Minnesota) catheter. Effective thrombus aspiration was seen in 70.3% of the Diver patients versus 81.8% of the Export patients (p = 0.10). No significant difference was found in myocardial blush grade, electrocardiographic outcome, or size distribution of retrieved thrombotic particles between the 2 devices.
