Description
Summary:Protamines are small basic proteins which replace histones and transition proteins during spermatogenesis. P1 protamine is the predominant form, present in all mammalian spermatozoa analyzed to date. The rat does possess a protamine 2 gene however, and low levels of transcripts are present in the rat testis. The authors present the nucleotide sequence of the rat protamine 2 gene and the amino acid sequence predicted from the nucleotide sequence.
