•The incidence of osteochimionecrosis of the jaws appears to be increasing.•Since 2015 bisphosphonates are not any longer the main causing drugs.•Since 2015 Denosumab became the main causing drug.•More than one third of the cases were due to non-oncological drug prescriptions.
