Summary: | Tan et al discuss a study which aims to estimate the effectiveness of a fourth mRNA vaccine dose against symptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection, COVID-19-related hospitalization, and severe COVID-19 in persons 80 years of age or older. The study was conducted to inform public health policy under the Infectious Diseases Act, Singapore, with exemption from ethics review. This study, based on comprehensive health care administrative data, provides evidence that a fourth mRNA vaccine dose confers additional sustained protection against hospitalization and severe disease from COVID-19 in an elderly Asian population during Omicron variant epidemic. |
