Magnetic studies of free nonferromagnetic clusters
Recent calculations have indicated the possibility of large permanent magnetic moments for clusters of nonferromagnetic materials. Here, Stern--Gerlach measurements of Al, Cr, Pd, and vanadium clusters, none of which are ferromagnetic in the bulk, are described. No deflections were observed in any o...

Summary: | Recent calculations have indicated the possibility of large permanent magnetic moments for clusters of nonferromagnetic materials. Here, Stern--Gerlach measurements of Al, Cr, Pd, and vanadium clusters, none of which are ferromagnetic in the bulk, are described. No deflections were observed in any of these systems. Upper limits of the magnetic moments are reported. |
