Summary: | The holistic admission process is an applicant review process that looks at other qualities, experiences, and attributes beyond the student's grade point average (GPA) and standardized test score as an indicator of the student's potential. According to Ash et al., (2020), this deficit mindset frames students and their families of origin as lacking the academic and cultural resources necessary for success, considers the student an outsider who does not belong, and is at-risk of failure. According to Stewart and Valian (2018), schemas are cognitive constructs representing knowledge and beliefs about social groups, much of which is subconscious. |
