Silver Nanoparticles with Broad Multiband Linear Optical Absorption

A simple one‐pot method produces silver nanoparticles coated with aryl thiols that show intense, broad nonplasmonic optical properties. The synthesis works with many aryl‐thiol capping ligands, including water‐soluble 4‐mercaptobenzoic acid. The nanoparticles produced show linear absorption that is...

Description
Summary:A simple one‐pot method produces silver nanoparticles coated with aryl thiols that show intense, broad nonplasmonic optical properties. The synthesis works with many aryl‐thiol capping ligands, including water‐soluble 4‐mercaptobenzoic acid. The nanoparticles produced show linear absorption that is broader, stronger, and more structured than most conventional organic and inorganic dyes.
