Summary:New high-pressure phase of GaOOH which is metastable under normal conditions has been obtained at p = 8.5 GPa and T = 400 °C in presence of supercritical aqueous vapor. The structure of β-GaOOH was related to InOOH structure type (orthorhombic, P2 1 nm, Z = 2). The lattice parameters are: a = 4.893 ± 0.001 Å; b = 4.338 ± 0.001 Å; c = 2.958 ± 0.001 Å; ρ calc = 5.43 g/cm 3. Transparent colorless crystals with a size of about 0.125 mm × 0.125 mm × 0.650 mm were grown.
