| AbstractList | The rational-agent frame of reference for the analysis of corporate strategic decision making may be extended to a moral-agent perspective in which decision content is viewed as compromising both commercial and ethical factors. Relevant factors then may be classified on the basis of the ethical decision principles to which they relate. These principles include: 1. rational-egoism, 2. self-referential altruism, or 3. deontology. This approach is applied to the problem of decision support for strategic divestment by multinational corporations (MNC). It is concluded that, for divestment decisions by MNCs, corporate consciousness can serve to identify and organize all relevant factors and issues, but the response can only be formulated and decided through reliance on the conscience of the individual. Decision theory is inadequate and incomplete as a guide to business policy in the area of prudent divestment. Identifies relevant factors in multinationals' decisions and classifies them on the basis of ethical principles.
