Description
Summary:An experimental study is conducted of the fracture and fatigue-crack growth behavior of reactively hot-pressed monolithic Ti3SiC2 ceramic having both fine and coarse-grained microstructures. The coarse-grained samples yield R-curve fracture toughness values that are among the highest ever established for a monolithic nontransforming ceramic; this is consistent with the profusion of crack-bridging processes active in the crack wake.
