Summary: | This essay presents Simmel's views on the social boundary. The concept of the boundary becomes rather important in perhaps the majority of relations between individuals, and between individuals and groups. Wherever the interests of two elements are concerned with the same object, the possibility of their coexistence depends on a boundary line within the object separating their spheres, whether a conflict ends with the establishment of a legal boundary or perhaps begins with a boundary that separates powers. |
