Description
Summary:Participants in the BSD Survey responded to a series of questions designed to elicit information on attitudes to dental care, perceptions of the importance of optimal dental health and factors influencing access to dental care. Over half (56.5 per cent) had attended the dentist in the previous 18 months and of these 45.6 per cent had attended for preventive rather than symptomatic reasons. Expense was identified as the largest single barrier to dental care. Social background and levels of education influenced attitudes to the retention of natural teeth.
