Revival of the Comment and Reply Sequence in Geophysical Research Letters

The current framework for addressing potential oversights or errors resides outside the formal peer review process and relies on voluntary participation by the authors of the original manuscript, which was not always assured. The GRL editorial board therefore decided to revive the comment-reply option as a means of facilitating scientific discourse and transparency surrounding the high-impact novel research that we publish. The GRL editorial board hopes that the revival of the comment and reply sequence facilitates scientific discourse and transparency by providing an opportunity for addressing potential oversights/errors and communication of additional insights, interpretations, and alternative viewpoints on research published in the journal.
