Synthesis and Antiproliferative Activity of Daunorubicin Conjugates with Sesquiterpene Lactones

The anthracycline antibiotic daunorubicin was modified by alantolactone, isoalantolactone, and alloahntolactone, i.e., sesquitapene lactones from Inula helenium L. The antiproliferative properties of the synthesized conjugates were studied using tumor and normal cell lines. It was found that the con...

Description
Summary:The anthracycline antibiotic daunorubicin was modified by alantolactone, isoalantolactone, and alloahntolactone, i.e., sesquitapene lactones from Inula helenium L. The antiproliferative properties of the synthesized conjugates were studied using tumor and normal cell lines. It was found that the conjugate of daunorubicin with alantolactone possessed more pronounced antiproliferative properties than daunorubicin for several tumor cell cultures without increasing the toxicity for normal cells.
