Description
Summary:Hospitals, by virtue of their concentration of susceptible patients, represent a particular risk situation for Legionnaires' disease, with legal requirements for hospital administrators in many jurisdictions to implement and maintain Legionella risk management and control strategies. It is with great interest, therefore, that people read a comprehensive whole-genome sequencing (WGS) analysis of 229 L. pneumophila sequence type 1 isolates by David et al. The study includes confirmed and suspected hospital-acquired patient isolates from multiple hospitals worldwide, associated environmental isolates, and clinical and environmental isolates associated with community-acquired Legionnaires' disease.
