Summary:Thirty-four percent (34%) of anesthesiologists practice in a single practice area and 62% report 5 or more practice areas (mean = 5.4, median = 6, standard deviation = 2.7), with the majority dedicating less than 25% of their time to any one clinical practice area. In a multiple regression analysis, females report an average of 0.55 fewer (95% Confidence Interval [CI], −0.61 to −0.49) practice areas than males, and international medical school graduates report an average of 0.32 more (95% CI, 0.25 to 0.40) practice areas than American medical school graduates.
