Summary: | For design, the key structural properties of a joint are the moment resistance, the stiffness and the rotation capacity. These are all dependent on the depth of the connected beam. This paper reports a series of tests on composite end plate connections for beam sections up to 530 mm deep. These show that failure is likely to occur through fracture of the slab reinforcement but usually only after substantial rotational deformation has developed. These and earlier tests are used to evaluate current proposals for prediction of the key structural properties. These are found to provide acceptable results for design. |
