Synthesis of (±)-heliannuol C

A synthesis of (±)-heliannuol C is described involving Bargellini condensation, Dieckmann cyclization and ortho-ester Claisen rearrangement followed by a regioselective epoxide reduction. A new CuI-catalyzed [2+2] cycloaddition reaction is also described.
