Summary: | After the discovery of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor agents as treatment of wet age-related macular degeneration, the number of studies with the objective to understand the molecular mechanisms involved in the age-re lated macular degeneration genesis has increased. The importance of the nuclear factor e2-related factor 2 lies in its activation-derived proteins being involved in the maintenance of the redox balance and consequent prevention of degenerative macular disease. This article aims to present the characteristics of nuclear factor e2-related factor 2 and describe the main nuclear factor e2-related factor 2-activated antioxidant enzymes that contribute to the preservation of vision. |
