Description
Summary:[Display omitted] •Rapid, one-pot Microwave synthesis of Molybdenum dioxide nano-particles.•Conversion of Mo-trioxide to Mo-dioxide is a unique approach.•Open beaker chemistry using household microwave offers ease of preparation.•The method can yield both uncapped and capped nano-particles.•A patent application has been filed for the current synthesis method. Microwave method has not been so well explored for synthesis of MoO2 nanoparticles. The article presents first of its kind microwave assisted synthesis of molybdenum dioxide nano-particles by use of home microwave oven. The commercial molybdenum trioxide upon excessive etching by hydrazine hydrate yielded nearly phase pure nanostructured MoO2 with particle diameter of less than 14 nm.
