Wear and Coefficient of Friction of a Supermodified Hypereutectic Aluminum–Silicon Alloy

The friction coefficient and the wear of a hypereutectic aluminum alloy with 15 wt % silicon and a supermodified eutectic structure without primary silicon crystals, obtained by directional crystallization at a solidification rate of 1 mm/s, are studied. It is shown that this alloy, which has high s...

Description
Summary:The friction coefficient and the wear of a hypereutectic aluminum alloy with 15 wt % silicon and a supermodified eutectic structure without primary silicon crystals, obtained by directional crystallization at a solidification rate of 1 mm/s, are studied. It is shown that this alloy, which has high strength and ductility, has a lower friction coefficient and a higher wear resistance than the alloy with 20 wt % silicon. After modification with strontium, its tribological properties are superior to those of the hypereutectic commercial alloy.
