Description
Summary:In this paper, online assessment of a dynamic wind turbine emulator (WTE) with pitch control mechanism is presented. The comprehensive model of WTE with a self-excited induction generator (SEIG) has been discussed. The system is designed to produce the desired torque and speed for a given wind speed by imitating closely the performance of a real wind turbine static and dynamic characteristics. A power and speed controller is also included by generating pitch command to limit at its rated value. The prototype of the DC motor based WTE with SEIG is developed and executed in dSpace1103 digital platform. The performance of the WTE has been studied extensively with varying load and wind speed including the effect of wind shear and shadow. The experimental results confirm its transient and steady state behavior in all operating regions. The same set up is also tested with different turbine models which shows the ruggedness. The theoretical and experimental power–speed curves for all models demonstrate the effectiveness of the WTE.
