Summary: | Lu is an early-maturing, high-yielding oat with good lodging resistance. Lu has the best combination of high yield and early maturity of contemporary cultivars developed and released in western Canada. Lu does not carry genetic resistance to the diseases most commonly found in the eastern prairies and, therefore, its production is limited to Alberta and western Saskatchewan. Lu has high test weight, 1000-kernel weight, protein content and milling yield similar to or better than the check cultivars, which makes it suitable for milling or feed end uses. Lu was supported for registration at the Prairie Regional Recommending Committee for Grains meeting in February 2001.Key words: Oat, Avena sativa L., cultivar description, high yielding early maturing oat |
