Description
Summary:The role of radiation in redox processes induced by the action of a remote spark discharge has been investigated. For this purpose, the yields of reactions have been measured during a discharge in pure nitrogen or pure oxygen. The results are compared with those in the case of discharge in air. Mohr’s salt and potassium permanganate have been used as test substances. Analysis of the results leads to the conclusion that the contribution of the products formed in the discharge region and diffused to the sample surface does not exceed 15% and radiation plays the main role in the initiation of chemical processes in the liquid.
