Description
Summary:The lower part of the slopes of the Untersee mountain valley, East Antarctica, were found out to be locally covered with lithificates (both carbonate-free and carbonate-poor), which occur in three modes: crusts, films, and impregnates. All of them cover Late Pleistocene moraine material and consist of a mixture of lacustrine sedimentary material and the filling material of moraines. A mechanism is suggested to account for the genesis of these lithificates.
