Critical scattering in a quasi-two-dimensional antiferromagnet

Critical dynamics of a layered insulating antiferromagnet Pr 2CuO 4 with weak interlayer coupling has been studied in the vicinity of the quantum critical point ( H C∼3 T at T=0) by scattering of cold neutrons. Description
Summary:Critical dynamics of a layered insulating antiferromagnet Pr 2CuO 4 with weak interlayer coupling has been studied in the vicinity of the quantum critical point ( H C∼3 T at T=0) by scattering of cold neutrons. The correlation length of the inter-plane copper spins fluctuations was observed to increase dramatically at H C, together with the peak and integral scattering intensity. The energy width of the critical scattering was found to be resolution limited indicating long (>10 −10 s) correlation times.
