Description
Summary:In the past few years, graphene-based composites gained tremendous interest in sample preparation due to the merits of large surface area, delocalized π-electron system, excellent thermal and chemical stability. This article presents an overview of the significant employment of graphene-based materials in different extraction techniques. The modification of other specific materials onto the surface of graphene enhances the extraction performance, including stability, selectivity and sensitivity. The objective of this review is to summarize and elucidate the development of various extraction techniques with graphene-based composites as the sorbents and their applications in food analysis, including pesticides, additives, drugs, mycotoxins and other pollutants. In addition, future advances and challenges of these extraction materials are also identified and discussed. •An overview of graphene (G) or G-based extraction materials was presented.•Immobilization of G or G-based composites on different substrates was described.•Application of various G-based extraction techniques for food safety was outlined.•Future advances and challenges of G-based extraction materials was discussed.
