Description
Summary:In this article, I describe and discuss the Qalandarnāma by Abū Bakr Qalandar Rūmī. This text, written in the Jochid ulus in the 14th c., is still poorly known in western scholarship. Abū Bakr Qalandar was the founder of the ṭarīqa of the ʿUshshāqīyān, the imam of one of the mosques of Qrïm, Shaykh al-Islām, and a very influential man among the Golden Horde’s elite. I here discuss his birthplace and life. I also analyse what Abū Bakr Qalandar’s title Shaykh al-Islām may have meant in the Golden Horde.
