Summary: | Rapid identification of biosurfactant-producing bacterial strains was achieved by assaying cell surface hydrophobicity which had a direct correlation with biosurfactant production by Serratia marcescens, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Bacillus pumilus, B. laterosporus, Acinetobacter calcoaceticus, Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. These properties namely, Hydrophobic Interaction Chromatography, Salt Aggregation Test, Bacterial Adherence To Hydrocarbon and adhesion to polystyrene by Replica Plate test, provide a simple means for identifying bacteria associated with the production of biosurfactants. |
