Description
Summary:Friction welding is used widely in various branches of the industry, in particular engineering. The process ensures high-quality of the welded joint with high productivity and simple design of the welding machine, is economical and does not require any consumable materials. In most cases, the friction welding process is automated and highly qualified personnel is not required for operating welding machines. However, the friction welding process is not yet used widely for welding pipes for various applications, especially industrial and transmission oil and gas pipelines, whose length reaches thousands of kilometres and the rate of laying of the pipes depends greatly on the welding speed of the pipes. A foreign company attempted to develop machines with the power of up to 400 kW for friction welding large diameter types, but at present there are no data on friction welding of pipelines.
