Description
Summary:In this paper, design and development of a broadband printed dipole antenna is presented. Broadband performance is achieved by compressing the third order mode toward the first resonant mode. For this, the feed gap of the dipole is modified in the form of a symmetrical step in the feed gap. Operating frequency range of this antenna is 2.56 GHz to 7.8 GHz with 10 dB return loss. This dipole antenna is made directional using an Artificial Magnetic Conductor (AMC) as a reflector. This AMC reflector consists of an array of modified EBG cells of Compact Uniplanar Photonic Band Gap (UC-PBG). The UC-PBG Cell is modified by using cross-slot in it to have wide band characteristics compared to original UC-PBG. For performance optimisation of the dipole antenna, the parametric study is carried out in terms of variation in feed gap parameters. Simulated and measured results for dipole and dipole with AMC reflector are presented.
