Non-centrosymmetry and second-harmonic generation in Z-type Langmuir-Blodgett films

An alternative strategy for achieving macroscopic non-centrosymmetric order in Langmuir-Blodgett multilayers is demonstrated. It is found that the addition of a second hydrophobic endgroup to the hydrophilic chromophore reduces the tendency of the molecules to invert during deposition.
